Clotrimazole cream (ointment) is an antifungal topical agent for external use.
The ointment is made on the basis of Vaseline and absorbs longer than the cream and lasts longer, but oily skin can be inappropriate.
The effect of the cream has a wide range and is aimed at virtually all known pathogenic fungi, as well as bacteria that cause infectious diseases in humans. These include dermatophytes, dimorphic fungi, blastomycoses, mold fungi, yeast, protozoa, certain types of Gram-positive cocci, corynebacteria, and the cream also has a trihonomacid effect.
Action Clotrimazole cream is aimed at slowing the growth of microorganisms. With a small concentration, the cream has a fungistatic effect inhibiting the growth of fungi, and in large, it has a fungicidal effect causing irreparable harm to the cells of fungi damaging the membranes, which is the cause of their complete death.
Also, the ointment leads to disruption of processes important for life of organisms, destroying the components of the cellular structure: proteins, polysaccharides, fats, amino acids. The cream interacts with enzymes of fungal cells, increasing the concentration of hydrogen peroxide to a toxic level, which also leads to their death.
Types of fungi resistant to the drug are almost not found, there are data only for some strains of Candida fungi. Information on the development of resistance to fungi sensitive to clotrimazole has not been reported.
Indications
Cream and ointment 
Clotrimazole is used for fungal lesions of the skin and mucous membranes resistant to the preparation fungi.
Effective at:

Contraindications

Dosing and Administration
Clotrimazole is used for external use, it is applied to previously cleaned and dried affected areas of the body with slightly massaging movements 2-3 times a day. For one application, depending on the area of the site, use a small amount of cream, usually a column of 5 mm in length.
Duration of treatment is assigned individually, it depends on the strain of the fungus, the severity of the disease and the effectiveness of therapy. On average, treatment lasts about 4 weeks. Important addition: after the disappearance of all manifestations of the disease, it is necessary to apply the drug for another 1-2 weeks, this will help to avoid relapses.
Dermatomycosis should be treated 3-4 weeks, multi-colored lichen - 1-3 weeks, candidal vulvitis - 1-2 weeks, erythrasms - for 2-4 weeks.
Vaginally, the cream portion of 5 g is inserted deep into the vagina once a day, for 3 days. With balanitis or candidal vulvitis, the cream is used more often and longer - 2-3 times a day, for 1-2 weeks. Also, during treatment, you can apply the cream to the external genitalia, to enhance the effect. If the disease recurs, the course can be repeated.
Side effects
Of side effects, local reactions to the components of the cream, such as itching, rashes, skin flaking, swelling, burning, blisters, can occur. Also, allergic reactions to the drug are possible: hives, itching.
Overdose
The use of large doses of the drug externally does not cause any negative reactions and life-threatening conditions.
When taking the cream inside, you may have a headache and dizziness, nausea, vomiting. In this case, the patient should be treated for symptoms.
Application Features
Ointment or cream Clotrimazole should not be applied to the skin around the eyes, to avoid contact with eyes.
